Glasgow - any plans?

28/01/2008 10:26:23 / happy

Guys - as you may have guessed from everything you hear about me on the site, I love to plan and be organised!!! Therefore as our trip to Glasgow is getting closer, I am starting to read up on what's on offer to do and see while we're there.

I'm a massive fan of Charles Rennie Mackintosh so would like to see some of his architechure etc, visit the Willow Tea rooms and browse the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum from what I've read so far! I know shopping is up there on the list for lots of you, but due to a leaky roof, buying 3 new pairs of trainers in the January sales and the new car in December, my spending needs to be kept to a minimum. (and with changing jobs I get paid on 21st feb for a part month and then don't get paid my my new job until end of March - yikes! )

I'm guessing we may go off and do different things and meet up to eat if we all want to see/do different things, but if there's anything people really don't want to do, Ben and I are arriving Thursday lunchtime so we could do some of our culture before everyone else gets here!

I should have some time to do some research on places to go as work is likely to be steady in feb when my manager is away, but if anyone has any ideas they want to share, let's start the discussion!!!!

If all you want to do is shop, please don't be offended if we don't join you some of the time!

xx

And Kelvingrove is well worth a visit, Sian, it's great since re-opening, though I loved it before anyway!! The Rennie Mackintosh room setting is lovely, and well worth a visit. Don't forget Loch Lomond is only a short train ride away too, it's also worth a visit, though I guess I'm biased! It depends how much you want to squeeze into your trip!

Oh, and the Botanic Gardens are great- if others don't want to go there, then Byres Rd nearby is fab- it has lovely shops and coffee shops, and Glasgow Uni and The Huntarian Museum are just off it. It's just a couple of stops on the Underground.

Oooh, I'm getting excited- I do hope I can make it!!!

oooh, mammie, please don't be disappointed- The Savoy Centre is NOT like Covent Gardens- it's a bit on the, erm, less sophisticated side (I'm being polite)!!!

You really want to go to Princes Square in Buchanan St- it's much, much better! And it's a stone's throw away from the Crocs shop!

I'm still hoping to come along- I haven't been able to book the Friday off work (yet) ... but I really do want to meet you all!
